Design for Print

AVT ConnectCase Study

I have worked closely with AVT Connect on a range of work over several years. I began by designing their printed brochure and editing presentations. I have also designed e-learning environments and websites for a range of their clients. More recently, I have designed logos and marketing for their Virtual meetings webcasting platform and developed a new logo and brand positioning for the company along with accompanying website, van livery, signage, stationery and literature. This has been a highly successful relationship. The perception of the company is now more in line with their current work in digital media and communication and means they can pitch their high quality production skills to ever larger clients.

Journal of Chinese MedicineCase Study

I have made 3 issues per year of the Journal of Chinese Medicine, which is an 84 page magazine in 2 formats (A4 size with UK advertising and Letter size with US advertising). I designed the artwork, organized the printing and then saved the content from these issues as searchable pdfs and posted these for sale on the JCM website using the sites’ own CMS. In addition, I have made several books and DVD Roms along with all promotional material for their marketing.

Sussex CounsellingCase Study

I have taken Sussex Counselling from a small professional body and through clear design and dependable project management improved the print and distribution of its newsletter, brought it’s web presence up to date and created an online membership process which alleviated much of the administration which held back its communications. Over time I have taken on their website including a restructuring of its internal search engine and presentation of its membership database and their printed directory of qualified Counsellors which is distributed to hospitals, Doctors’ surgeries and libraries. I have project managed a revamp of all their stationery, the visual coherence of their communications and raised the status and income of the organisation.

NC Brighton magazine Case Study

I was the art director and production manager for this locally run and focused lifestyle magazine. The magazine required a great deal of management, of staff and contributors, of liaising with print houses and freelancers. I developed production schedules and kept a close eye on the timely completion of each issue and its readiness for print ahead of each month’s deadline. Each issue was centred on a particular topic and over the 2 and a half years that it ran we covered; the brighton festival, the environment, fashion, design, love, christmas, heroes and parking each with a sense of humour and style which was unique at the time. The recession and its impact on advertising brought the magazine to a close but its influence was seen reflected in the cover designs of observer supplement magazines of the time and I'm proud to say that the Brighton Museum and Library is holding copies in its archives for posterity.

Yoga Monkeyscase study

Yoga Monkeys was set up in 2008 as an initiative to bring Yoga into the primary school curriculum. My involvement was to create a logo/branding for the concept which included a drawn monkey character who could demonstrate specific Yoga poses. One of the main pieces of work was the website which would offer resources to teachers and give some indication of the type of work involved in the classes.
